Update: What is the problem with getting these people off the cruise ship?

https://www.nj.com/coronavirus/2020/03/nj-couple-stuck-on-quarantined-cruise-ship-after-21-cases-of-coronavirus-diagnosed.html

Still today these poor people are on a giant petri dish of a virulent disease while waiting for evacuation.

Are we saying there aren’t enough resources to quarantine a few thousand people off the ship while testing them.

Trump has already stated his preference to let them stay on there (until they are all infected, perhaps?). Fortunately, he is letting others make the humanitarian decision.

“I have great experts, including the vice president … they would like to have the people come off,” Trump said, saying he wants the passengers to stay idling off the coast of California. “I would rather have the people stay. But I’d go with them. I told them to make the final decision.”

“I don’t need the numbers to double because of one ship,”

But that was last Thursday. In that amount of time, all could have been tested and many if not all moved ashore for monitoring. That is, if we really wanted to help them and made a pretty good effort. Yes, it would take a lot of resources to do safely. But if we can’t handle this, what can we handle?

Confined quarters, recirculating air and coronavirus are made for each other.

    1. Whew, I feel better now. A couple of tipsy passengers going with the flow.

I still think, along with heath specialists, that it is better to get them ashore.

  1. Gossip much? Quit reading into things and making up falsehoods. No one wants to keep people on the ship so they can get infected. That is blatant nonsense. It is standard protocol to contain viruses first and assess the situation before subjecting the greater population to potential exposure and that is what is meant by “numbers”. Not “his” numbers as you and others comically concocted for faux indignation in another thread. A few thousand people is a lot more difficult to process than you think, apparently. Got a 3 thousand person quarantine facility in your back yard?

    1. I doubt that bored is the biggest problem. Close quarters and recirculating air, own cabin or not, are perfect conditions for spreading this contagion, which has been labeled highly transmittable.

    2. Whatever you are smoking or drinking it seems to be working.

The doubling of numbers was about the number of infected on the ship and the number we had back then.

You are making stuff up again.

Now to Trump’s credit he did leave the option open to have Pence remove them. Of course you know why?
So Mike can take the fall because he did remove the passengers as the numbers rise.

So quoting someone, verbatim, is now “Pure gossip and innuendo”? Wow. Better go change the definition in my dictionary.

  2. I can see some problems.

One, those people, bored as they might be, who are NOT infected are relatively safe in their cabins.

Some percentage of them will be infected getting them off the ship.
