Another shoe doesn’t drop.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/02/14/doj-drops-case-against-former-fbi-deputy-director-andrew-mccabe-115251

Several of the Trump loyalists around here have been drooling with excitement over the prospect of seeing their chants of “Lock Them Up” fulfilled on the public servants trying to protect us from Russian “ratfucking.” After two years of dangling the Andrew McCabe case in front of them on Fox News, the DOJ is dropping it.

The behavior of the Trump DOJ is particularly egregious and political in this case because a Grand Jury – whose standard for indictment is only probable cause – rejected the DOJ “case” in September of 2019. It seems nobody had the guts to tell the President that his claims of criminal behavior by Andrew McCabe were bullshit. For more than a year.

Maybe Tabor will suggest the government should pay McCabe’s legal costs? I won’t hold my breath.

  1. Wait until the Durham investigation yields nothing but a bad typing job by a low level flunkie fresh out of law school who was trying to make a name for himself in the department. Tabor and Roberts will either crawl into a hole and look for more conspiracy based “truths” or their heads will explode.

  2. “I just think the integrity of the process is being unduly undermined by inappropriate comments and actions on the part of people at the top of our government,” added Walton, an appointee of President George W. Bush. “I think it’s very unfortunate. And I think as a government and as a society we’re going to pay a price at some point for this.”

Trump still thinks he is running one of his real estate companies. There is no “deep state”. There are people in government who know their jobs, however. And those jobs include making sure we are still a democratic republic that governs by the rule of law.

They are quite well aware of the dangers from this regime headed by a man whose disdain for law is written in thousands of nuisance suits against vendors, banks, investors and communities because they crossed him or his plans. Law for Trump is a tool to manipulate, threaten or force compliance and not a bulwark for the long arc of justice.

We are a country founded on the novel idea that there is no king above the law.

    Trump doesn’t know that.

    Yet.

  3. The Politico story omits an important detail. DOJ has decided not to pursue specific charges against McCabe, but not all charges. DOJ’s letter yo McCabe’s lawyer states:

“the Government has decided not to pursue criminal charges against your client, Andrew G. McCabe, arising from the referral by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) to our Office of conduct described in OIG’s April 13, 2018, report entitled, ‘A Report of Investigation of Certain Allegations Relating to Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.'”

I don’t know if any other charges or investigations of potential consequence to McCabe exist, but there’s not much to read in the tea leaves of this particular decision.

Also, it should be emphasized that little, if anything, is actually known about the grand jury Politico mentions. Even Politico takes care to state it is only speculation that “the Washington-based grand jury probing the matter took the rare step of rejecting charges.” We don’t even know what the matter being probed was.

What fertilizer are you referring to? I quoted the DOJ letter and Politico story accurately to show that Mr. Murphy’s spin on the story is not accurate.

Your imagining that there might be some other charges against McCabe not mentioned in this letter does NOT show that my “spin” is not accurate. My “spin” is factual. This letter ends your hopes that the political investigation launched against McCabe would let you people “Lock him up.” That imagining only shows how totally divorced from reality you have to be if you want to cling to Trump.

By the way, you missed a chance to jab me. I misstated how long ago it was that the the grand jury said to Trump . . . Take this bull and shove it.

My imagining has nothing to do with it. Your Politico source committed a lie of omission by quoting the DOJ letter selectively.

Yes, you did, because it never happened.

          As always . . . Bullshit!

          Below is the entire letter.

Prove you are not a jackass by stating what omission you are referring to.

          Re: Andrew G. McCabe
          Dear Counsel:

We write to inform you that, after careful consideration, the Government has decided not
to pursue criminal charges against your client, Andrew G. McCabe, arising from the referral by
the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) to our Office of conduct described in OlG’s April 13,
2018, report entitled, “A Report of Investigation of Certain Allegations Relating to Former FBI
Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.” Based on the totality of the circumstances and all of the
information known to the Government at this time, we consider the matter closed. Please do not
hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

        2. RE: “Prove you are not a jackass by stating what omission you are referring to.”

Yup. That’s the letter. Now how about YOU showing us where Politico quoted this part of it:

“the Government has decided not to pursue criminal charges against your client, Andrew G. McCabe, arising from the referral by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) to our Office of conduct described in OIG’s April 13, 2018, report entitled, ‘A Report of Investigation of Certain Allegations Relating to Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.’”

Also, show us where your spin on the letter addresses the significance of part I quoted.

The way you and Politico tell the story, McCabe is cleared of all current and potential charges for life. But in fact, McCabe has merely been notified that DOJ has decided not pursue specific charges related to the one referral.

            So, Jackass it is.

Politico reported honestly that McCabe has been notified that he will not be prosecuted based on the referral from the OIG that had you little Trumpkins drooling in anticipation.

Instead of just accepting that fact, off you go to fantasy-land where somewhere, somehow by someone there will still be a chance to . . . “Lock him up.” And, for good measure you accuse Politico of lying by leaving YOUR trip to fantasy-land from their report.

Now that I think about it, Jackass is far too generous.
