Although the SEAL community is divided on the Gallagher case, publicity is not what most want.
The political motive is pretty clear with Trump’s very public pardons. So long as some rogue actions involve killing Muslims, our “killing machines” make good fodder for rallies. Military discipline be damned.
Gallagher was accused by his own peers in the SEALS. Admiral Green is a decorated SEAL himself. And it was a complicated case that had some twists and turns. A private inquiry by the president would have been much better. But the Trump might not look like the tough guy he thinks he is.
Good order, professionalism and discipline are respected and feared by the enemy in war. Savagery is not.
