Washington Examiner reporter raked by Conway

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/powerful-woman-kellyanne-conway-mocks-and-threatens-reporter-for-mentioning-her-husband-audio

Methinks the the lady in red is too big for her breaches (pun intended).

See, Kelly Ann is in consideration for Chief of Staff. Her husband is a very powerful conservative attorney who has been a very outspoken critic of the president after supporting him for the office. Trump and George have traded insults on a regular basis.

That is certainly newsworthy by any standards.

So this reporter from the Washington Examiner is getting a story when KA joins the conversation and explodes. She says George’s positions on the president are not important because he gets his “power” from her prominence.

(A slight pause to remind folks that the Washington Examiner is reliably and unabashedly conservative.)

Then KA threatens to bring the wrath of a government investigation into the reporter’s personal life. Which is, incidentally, a Republican interest group’s strategy of late; I think using private funds, however.

Never mind the First Amendment. Or that public figures are newsworthy. Or that KA is arguably the most loyal and possibly powerful of Trump’s advisors. Or
the oddity of George’s criticisms coupled with KA’s position in the administration.

So now we have a threat of government persecution of journalists, conservative no less, because they might not please the king or his court.

The link is the transcript of the call published by the Examiner. I guess disdain for the Constitution runs deep in the current White House.

Along with narcissism. Is that contagious I wonder?

And I thought the “soaps” were dead.

  1. Ms. Conway may have acted badly (although that’s not obvious), but she has a fair beef. Her husband’s relevance to the story is marginal at best. I would be miffed, too, if my marriage were brought up in the context of a news report concerning my career.

That is like saying Nancy Reagan was marginal. Or Edith Wilson. Or Eleanor Roosevelt.

Maybe so, but if Ms. Conway’s husband is relevant to the story at hand, perhaps you can explain how.

      1. KA is being considered for Chief of Staff, one of the closest, if not the closest, advisor to the president. Meanwhile her husband is one the most virulent critics of Trump with headlines of attack seemingly weekly. And he no ordinary spouse. He is a very wealthy, high profile, conservative Washington attorney who made his bones helping to impeach Clinton by representing Paul Jones. And he was a major Trump supporter. Big time.

His turn to be a Trump critic would be news on its own even without KA as Trump’s longest surviving booster and confidant.

Families are often off limits when they are not political, but that is not the case here.

Germaine to the story? Certainly with his anti-Trump rants and her possible promotion it doesn’t get any more interesting.

Remember, that the reporter was contacted to “leak” an off-record tidbit about KA’s possible Chief of Staff job, then KA barged in and changed the whole conversation to be about her and George.

But the scary part, which you glossed over, was the threat to unleash a government investigation into the private life of the reporter. Just like any other autocratic administration.

To be more blunt, who the hell does Kelly Ann think she is to issue such a threat?

Inexcusable, but par for the course in this regime.

Sure, as a matter of catty gossip. Do you really believe such things deserve to be taken seriously as news?

RE: “To be more blunt, who the hell does Kelly Ann think she is to issue such a threat?”

I’d say she’s a woman who’s invested a lot in a very successful career and legitimately resents having her accomplishments cast in the shadow of her marriage, as if the “little woman” can’t succeed without her man.

Government investigation? You’re letting your imagination run away with you.

          1. “Before ending the call, Conway threatened that the White House would delve into the personal lives of reporters if they wrote about her husband. “Listen, if you’re going to cover my personal life, then we’re welcome to do the same around here,” she said.”

The “we are welcome to do the same around here” is pretty obvious, especially coming from a regime that has expressed a desire to shut down critics, take broadcast licenses or sue journalists.

However, you have not read either this article in the Examiner, or the link to the previous one in which Conway was mentioned as a staunch critic of Trump despite being a very prominent conservative who had at offered, by Trump, a top position in the DOJ.

And for this KA went ballistic.

She was just trying to bully a young reporter which is par for the KA course. And it did not work and she got madder and madder.

This might not be as important as the fake pullout from the Middle East and then we are going back into Syria with tanks because the president screwed up big time. But it sheds light on the butt heads like KA who occupy the White House.

So now we know that you are apparently in favor of government investigations of reporters. At least that is out in the open.

            IMHO

      1. I forgot about that. George wrote an opinion in Atlantic criticizing the regime and saying that the aides should just quit.

He ain’t no stay at home Dad. Very much involved in the whirlwind around the White House.

        Just sayin’.
