A Warning For Most of Us?

Most of the folks on this blog are over 50 and male. I see this story as an ominous sign that we should stay out of the water, particularly off the OBX. Or we need to find younger folks to join us.

Or am I just being paranoid?

  1. “being paranoid”

Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean they’re not after ya…

I was a beach lifeguard in my youth and was continually surprised at how ignorant people were about the perils of shoreline ocean currents. Coupling that with an over-estimation of their swimming skills (at all ages) led to a LOT of opportunities to get off the stands and take a dip.

It’s actually more brains than brawn, you can float you’re way out of trouble if you know what you’re doing…

On the other hand, allowing you all to be swallowed by the rising seas would be poetic justice for the damage you have wrought.

    Just kidding.

    Or am I?

  3. Don’t look at me. I stopped swimming in the Ocean when the Marine Mammals Protection Act was passed. (my undergraduate field of study was marine biology, I could see the outcome)

Rip currents I can handle, but I have become accustomed to being at the top of the food chain.

I see your point. But Mother Nature seems to believe otherwise as sharks like to chomp on us more than we like to chomp on them.
