With women in combat roles, a federal court rules the male-only draft unconstitutional

Triumphs of ideology over common sense are inevitable these days. I get it that women can operate and maintain military equipment as well as men in many contexts, but warfighting remains psychologically a male profession.

  1. I don’t know about that. Beware of female bears, lions, moose or most any primates when their offspring are nearby.

When the upper body strength is accounted for as with a female combat pilot, I think attention to detail outshines any perceived weakness of women v men.

By that logic we should exclusively draft mothers to go to war.

      1. “By that logic . . .”

You did not follow the logic. You claimed that warfighting is psychologically male. The counter-example to that claim is the aggressive behavior of females when they are protecting their young. And that evidence refutes the false “fact” that you would use to justify discrimination.

Leaving aside the animal kingdom, modern history has many examples of women performing magnificently in combat when given the chance to do so. Here is just one example . . .

        Then there is this . . .

        1. I followed the logic just fine. Mr. Rothman assumes that warfighting and maternal protective behaviors are psychologically equivalent. They obviously are not, for if they were it would make sense to draft mothers with children into combat.

There’s no doubt that women are equiped by evolution to become violent when necessary. But in the same way that men naturally excel at STEM disciplines, they naturally excel at warfighting.

  2. The Law of Unintended Consequences kicks in as those female “pioneers” who have striven to serve in front-line combat units, SEALs, fighter/attack pilots, etc. have made the issue of females being draft-eligible a no-brainer.

  3. If the draft returns it would be for a real national emergency. (No the phony one the regime is scamming…just sayin’).

And considering the physical, moral, legal and mental fitness of American men, we need all the help we can get. The military can’t even find enough eligible men now. And from my military experience in days of yore, the bar for physical and mental acuity is not that high excepting special forces.

  4. Of course, women should face conscription to the same degree that men do. As someone else has already said that is a “no-brainer.” It is up to the military to use each individual effectively and I will stipulate that a 105 pound person is probably not a suitable candidate for the Navy Seals – regardless of gender.

The only reason to object to such a straightforward application of the principle of equality regardless of gender is pretty obviously anachronistic misogyny. The attitude is summed up pretty clearly by Tabor’s response to the idea that women should be in charge . . . “Oh hell no.”

In no way is that any sort of rational attitude, especially in the face of history full of women effectively “running the show.” Golda Meir, Margaret Thatcher and Angela Merkel come immediately to mind. In our own time and place we have the example of Nancy Pelosi whose strength, grit, toughness and skill stands in stark contrast to her male predecessors and rivals such as Hastert , Boehner and Ryan.

There are other reasons. For example, conscription applies to young adults. It is better for society for young women to become mothers instead of soldiers.
