Some are heralding Time’s article (at the link) as a pivot point. They suggest that U.S. policy in support of the war in Ukraine has changed — without any formal announcement — and that material and practical aid will soon end, as well. The war has observably been lost, they say.
I don’t know the truth of that. My view has always been that the Ukraine war was lost (by Ukraine) the day it started for purely technical, material reasons.
That said, something in Time’s piece stands out to me as especially notable. On his latest trip to the U.S. Zelensky’s “aides tried to arrange an in-person appearance for him on Fox News and an interview with Oprah Winfrey. Neither one came through.”
Is it not odd that Fox and Oprah would decline to interview Zelensky during his visit?
All of the networks got the same phone call that the Consent Manufacturing is to be done on behalf of Israel now. Sorry, Ukraine; the US is a fickle mistress.

Sure looks that way.
The older I get the more I notice that the Consent Manufacturing Industrial Complex is everywhere, always working. It is almost as if the processes of democracy have been replaced. After all, there is no need to change the government when it is so much easier to change the way people think/feel about the government.

That is Chomsky’s basic premise. The levers of power have been fully captured by business and the military. Those decisions are made far from us and are not up for discussion. We are permitted (encouraged) to fight over culture war issues.

Yes, it is. I have been called a conspiracy theorist at times for taking the premise seriously, but I think events are showing that Chomsky was correct.
When I was young I often heard that Nazi Germany perfected mass media manipulation, then Madison Avenue adopted the techniques that the Nazis pioneered. Today I think the story is more nuanced, with Western corporate interests planting earlier seeds. See, for example, this post that appeared today:

As one who believes in capitalist enterprise and the political concept of liberty, I am somewhat lost in knowing what to say or do about the state of affairs today. The problem of “consent manufacturing” is major in and of itself, but even bigger and more mysterious is the question, “What is consent being manufactured to achieve?”
