“The Congress shall have Power To . . . raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years …”
They weren’t stupid. Malingering at home is a recipe for mischief and mayhem.

Serendipitously, I’ve had the chance to learn more about Pierre Omidyar. If he’s listening, I’d like to tell him that despite his brains and success, he is misunderstanding the American dream. Trump is closer to that dream than the people on whom Omidyar is wasting money. The secret is to live and let live. This requires respect for others and their dreams. A Buddhist should understand this. But as we’ve all seen in recent years, Democrats are sunk in contempt for people generally. The public is dismissed as deplorables, and swindled at every opportunity.
All this is completely obvious in my favorite arena, public education. Biden and his gang want ever more billions for ever more elaborate educational services. The joke is that the services will be inferior by design and people won’t learn much. We’ll just spend more which will be cycled around to Democrat politicians most likely to support socialist transformation.
