      This problem is not new. And I would venture a small wager that the openly gay leaders are not the problem.

      1. Stop and think. Yes, there are heterosexual pedophiles. So what?

        A male heterosexual pedophile is no danger to BOY scouts. But you wouldn’t want him camping with the GIRL scouts.

        It is for that reason that the Boy Scouts excluded homosexual men from being Scoutmasters until forced to accept them by the courts. Note that does not mean a large number of homosexual men are pedophiles, but by excluding all homosexuals, the Scouts sought to protect against that fraction of homosexual men who are pedophiles.

        Of course, not all homosexual pedophiles can be identified. The Scouts made an effort to identify and track them which was the reason for the ‘inelligible volunteer files’ which was an effort to protect scouts from infiltrators.

          1. I don’t know what you’re getting at. I see no lapse in logic.

            Homosexual men are a subset of all men.

            Homosexual pedophiles are a subset of homosexual men.

            The goal was to exclude that subset from access to young boys.

            Pedophiles hide their perversion from view, so excluding homosexual men was a means to exclude that subset. It also excludes a lot of homosexual men who are NOT pedophiles, but it was the only available filter, albeit, an imperfect one.

            Of course, the Boy Scouts of today have changed procedures to prevent ANY adult man from having private contact with young boys. That requires a lot more volunteers so there will be enough tor chaperoning.

            My son is a Scoutmaster, and every year attends a program on procedures for protecting the scouts.

            Using that “only available filter” is nothing more than a homophobic rationale to discriminate.

            Hell, why not single out retired Dentists while their at it, since the EXACT same logic applies.
