I thought the State Department also represented the other 49 states.
Kansas City Star nailed it the editorial:
“Our task at the State Department is to use all our skill … to make sure that American markets are open for Kansas products all around the world. That’s what I’m focused on.” Or if you’re not a candidate, then you sound like an awfully parochial secretary of state.
Though the former feels more likely, you should know that Kansans are interested in the world beyond the Great Plains. And would frown on even a fellow Kansan using his government office to fund what looks increasingly like campaign travel.”
Pompeo is playing footsie with Kansas. He is posing to run for Senate against Roberts next November, but won’t answer the inquiries. Not unusual for politicians, to be sure. But he is the Secretary of State, which is a full time job particularly considering the events and situations around the world we are trying to juggle.
Yet he has time to “campaign” in Kansas multiple times. On federal bucks.
In my opinion he is fitting himself with a life jacket for when he has to bail.
“See, I know I was in the State Department for the regime, but my heart has always been with Wichita. VOTE POMPEO FOR SENATE 2020.”
I guess that is the political equivalent of keeping your resume up to snuff.
IMHO
“I will not lie, cheat or steal, nor tolerate those who do.”
Oh wait, never mind, that’s VMI. Pompeo went to West Point, so their code clearly allows for more wiggle room.

Your comment made me think of the one lie that trump told that bothers me more than all of the other 13,273 combined:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
