Kyiv Debacle

This account from the AP is for the Putin and Trump apologists around here having trouble acknowledging Russian failures and the indisputable fact of their retreat from Kyiv. The war will go on but the assault on Kyiv will remain a “defeat for the ages.” From the article. . .

” ‘It’s stunning,’ said military historian Frederick Kagan of the Institute for the Study of War, who says he knows of no parallel to a major military power like Russia invading a country at the time of its choosing and failing so utterly.”

  1. The AP tarnished its credibility by producing false reports of the bombing of the maternity hospital in Mariupol in early March. Why should anyone accept its analysis of Russia’s military operations near Kyiv?

I recommend instead this (long) video for a detailed analysis of Russia’s military tactics and strategy:

    1. Is this the same Scott Ritter:

From Wikipedia: “Scott Ritter was convicted of unlawful contact with a minor and five other charges in 2011 after exposing himself via webcam to a police officer posing as a 15 year old girl in a sting operation and subsequently spent two years in prison.[4]”

And was he sentenced by KBJ?

      1. RE: “Is this the same Scott Ritter…”

Yes. As Wikipedia also says, “Scott Ritter has written articles on issues ranging from international security, military affairs, Russia, the Middle East to arms control and nonproliferation for multiple media sources internationally including Huffington Post, The Guardian, Newsweek, London Review of Books, The Nation and Los Angeles Times. As of 2022 he is currently regularly writing for Canadian Dimension, Veterans Today, New Age (Bangladesh), RT, Global Times, The Citizen (Tanzania) and Consortium News.”

I figure if MSM is willing to publish him, the Forum can endure him.

Is there anything in the video you wish to discuss?

        1. The wiki articel wwent further:

“Ritter was the subject in two law enforcement sting operations in 2001.[47] He was charged in June 2001 with trying to set up a meeting with an undercover police officer posing as a 16-year-old girl.[48][49] He was charged with a misdemeanor crime of “attempted endangerment of the welfare of a child”. The charge was dismissed and the record was sealed after he completed six months of probation.[49][50] After this information was made public in early 2003, Ritter said that the timing of the leak was politically motivated in order to silence his opposition to the Bush administration’s push toward war with Iraq.[48][49][51]

Ritter was arrested again in November 2009[52] over communications with a police decoy he met on an Internet chat site. Police said that he exposed himself, via a web camera, after the officer repeatedly identified himself as a 15-year-old girl.[2] Ritter said in his own testimony during the trial that he believed the other party was an adult acting out her fantasy.[53] The next month, Ritter waived his right to a preliminary hearing and was released on a $25,000 unsecured bail. Charges included “unlawful contact with a minor, criminal use of a communications facility, corruption of minors, indecent exposure, possessing instruments of crime, criminal attempt and criminal solicitation”.[54] Ritter rejected a plea bargain and was found guilty of all but the criminal attempt count in a Monroe County, Pennsylvania courtroom on April 14, 2011.[2][1] In October 2011, he received a sentence of 1½ to 5½ years in prison.[55] He was sent to Laurel Highlands state prison in Somerset County, Pennsylvania in March 2012 and paroled in September 2014.[56]”

Just goes to some level of credibility for your source. You tend to ignore that which is inconvenient when you get to feed your narrative.

How so? Ritter’s credibility with respect to the topic at hand is his military/intelligence/NATO background.

What did they get wrong in your thinking?

They reported that Russia bombed the hospital when there was no evidence that Russia did it. Since then, numerous Ukrainian atrocities have been reported, lending credibility to the allegation that Ukraine in fact bombed the hospital.

          No evidence?

Except the Russian ambassador to the U.N. publicly acknowledging that they did it – claiming it was a legitimate military target because civilians had been removed and it was being used as a firing point by Ukraine. There is ZERO evidence that this Russian claim is true. And plenty of dead civilians that show it is false.

The ONLY question is was it a deliberate part of their terror campaign against Ukraine civilians or was it the random consequence of their indiscriminate bombing and shelling of Ukrainian cities.
