Ukraine – Everything You Know Is Wrong! with Dmitry Orlov

I recommend this video for a number of reasons. The main one is its ham radio or samizdat quality.

If you get your news and opinion from American mainstream media sources, you may find it entertaining or instructive to hear what others have to say.

Dmitry Orlov is a Russian-American writer. You can learn more about him at Wikipedia.

    1. RE: “some of it is pretty far down the rabbit hole.”

If only there were a Ministry of Truth one could consult for help in sifting the wheat from the chaff.

I find one of Orlov’s comments particularly intriguing. He said that there is no protection in international law for the sovereignty of a nation that abuses the human rights of its own residents. Accordingly, if it is true that the Ukrainian army was staging outside of Donbas for an invasion of that territory, Russia’s counterinvasion might be considered technically legal.

I have been unable to verify this proposition, but it seems correct to me based on general principles of sovereignty.

      1. Part of the problem is that there are paramilitary groups and warlords in Ukraine acting on their own, or with a wink-and-a-nod from Kiev.

Ukraine certainly had an obligation to protect its citizens in the Donbas from the neo-Nazi paramilitary groups and made no effort to do so whether it was directly involved or not.

(“Warlords”? Really, you think Ukraine is that primitive?)

          You know this how?

Separatists and mercenaries armed and supported by Russia need someone to fight, don’t you think? And they are not too good at what they do except kill Ukrainians. And shoot down commercial airlines with Russian missiles.

Getting really crowded in that red pocket.😎

          Polly wanna cracker?

You and your comrade Roberts are walking proof of the downside of free speech. Lies and stupidity have the same protections as the truth. If one wants to have freedom of speech one has to learn to tolerate the abuse of it. So, carry on. Keep those lessons coming. Keep spreading your bullshit fascist propaganda on behalf of the murderous KGB thug pulling your strings. We can all use the practice in tolerance.

          1. Honestly, I think this site has been hacked by Russia.

Not only is Putin “justified” he is a friggin’ hero.

Red feathers do stick together. Never thought I’d see it here. As much as I will debate and disagree about liberal v conservative, Republican v.Democrat, healthcare etc. , I at least thought that allegiance to America v. autocratic dictators with long records of murder and disinformation might be a point of agreement.

But I was being a Pollyanna.

            Shame.

No doubt. The specific allegation, however, is that Ukraine’s regular army was planning an assault on Donbas. The issue of neo-Nazis isn’t confined to “paramilitary groups and warlords.” They are a contingent within the official military.

We have a lot more neo-Nazis among our esteemed militia gangs than probably all of Ukraine. And if they are the same quality as our jerks, the Russians would have won the Donbas invasion a long time ago.

            About 3% might be neo-Nazis.

The neo-Nazis in the Ukranian army received training from our CIA and NATO forces going back at least as far as 2013.

We have neo-Nazis in our military. How did they train?

What cite do you have for this assertion?

Maybe we should invite Putin to cleanse our own homegrown neo-Nazis.

You really are acting as a front man for Putin.

Poland and Hungary among others also have plenty of neo-“this and that White Supremacy assholes”. Want to propagandize for their takeover by Putin while you are at it?

Your man is invading a sovereign nation for BS reasons. He is relying on Western gullibles to spread it and see what grows.

I have cited Wikipedia, given you a documentary to watch, and links to a half-dozen articles in mainstream sources to show you that neo-Nazis in Ukraine are a real, actual problem.

If you wish to remain blind after all that, then I’m afraid I can’t help you.

          7. You have given us conspiracy nuts and TASS sprinkled with a few Wikipedia articles.

There are 40 million Ukrainians. Maybe a few thousand are neo-Nazis. Is that a problem so egregious that thousands of civilians are being killed, maimed and millions displaced, an entire nation invaded and infrastructure destroyed, and Europe on on the brink of war and destruction.

Get a grip, or get out of the one you are in.

Typical conspiracy theorists rely on a smidgen of truth to spread tons of crap. And that is what you are doing.

The mantra from you folks is that since so many civilians are being murdered and buildings destroyed, the Ukrainians should just lay down and get under Putin’s boot.

And you same folks drill into every sucker willing to listen about the importance of the 2nd Amendment to repel wannabe dictators.

Well, this proves you are full of crap. But Putin loves guys like you because that means his campaign to destroy us is working.

Sorry to disillusion, but there are a lot of real patriots in my country that do not see the glorious benefits of a dictatorial takeover of a fledgling democracy that wants to join the West.

            I will stick with them.

Do you understand the difference between a reason for war and a pretext for war? Probably not. Look it up.

Fascism and slavery versus Democracy and Liberty is a struggle that has been going on for many decades. Fascism has opened a strong new front right here in our own country. This site has some of its foot soldiers excusing every crime of fascist darlings like Trump and Putin, cheerleading for violent insurrection, and attacking the legitimacy of every democratic institution.

The FREE and FAIR election of Zelensky ousting a Putin stooge is a pretty good start.

Oh, wait. You don’t believe in free and fair elections … unless YOUR candidate of choice wins. If they lose, it was a “stolen election” awash with massive voter fraud.

But, for starters, their President was elected by the people and did not get his office by murdering rivals and critics.

I don’t know what you mean by “you folks.” The mantra from ME, however, is that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is generally misunderstood by dupes in America who believe what MSM tells them without making any effort to comprehend other perspectives.

I have said from the beginning of this war that Ukraine cannot win militarily against Russia because Russia is a superior battlefield adversary. American/NATO support short of toe-to-toe confrontation is therefore futile and immoral.

I have posted scholarly assessments, military assessments and first-person eyewitness assessments of the situation in Ukraine, but I think you want to believe what you want to believe no matter what others say.

You have a lot of gall questioning my patriotism.

I am not sure where that came from. I do question your assertions that Putin and his misinformation machine are supportable by a discerning individual.

You blame Zelensky and NATO for causing losses in civilian lives. Perhaps you could find it in your heart to consider that Russia invaded Ukraine, not vice versa. The responsibility for loss of life does not belong to the victim of attack.

You quoted Putin saying that it is “Ukraine’s choice”. Think about that. A man puts a gun to your head and says “it’s your choice”.

And you are pointing fingers at President Zelensky while his country is being destroyed by a spoiled dictator. The nation is already under martial law, not surprisingly as buildings are blown up and citizens are getting shot at point blank.

Ukraine was trying to get out from Putin’s yoke for years. It wanted the freedoms of Europe. Is it a perfect nation? No. Do they have a right to determine their own destiny? Yes.

If you want to keep rationalizing for Putin and spreading his propaganda, that is your choice. I will disagree, but what else is new?
