Trump wannabe tries his schtick on Dr. Fauci. It did not go well.

Rand Paul comes back to his LIE that our government funded research that lead to the emergence of the Covid-19 virus. Interesting to watch this sociopath make his threats of prison (Lock him up!) directed at one of the most respected people in our country. Trying to out Trump Trump but not very good at it.

There is a tiny fact hidden in this yet another “conservative” LIE. Funding from the NIH did lead to a small sub-contract at Wuhan for ongoing studies that had nothing to do with the pandemic virus. That is enough for such people. Any chance to attack our government, China or Fauci is just too good for such a person as Rand Paul to pass up. My prediction – try as he might, Rand Paul will not be the next Trump.

Fauci claims the grant had nothing to do with the pandemic virus. Whether he is telling the truth or not remains to be seen.

More generally, any U.S. funding of the Wuhan lab will be problematic should the lab-leak theory of Covid’s origins be substantiated.

Trump and Putin have the same number of letters in their last names. So does Fauci.

      Egads, so does COVID.

Proof positive that either all of them are involved in undermining Western Civilization or that conspiracy nuts are just that.

What conspiracy are you referring to? Mr. Murphy admits NIH funded the Wuhan lab. At issue are the consequences of that fact. Do you want to know what those consequences are, or do you assume you already know?

It was hardly an “admission.” Ron Paul’s LIES are about what that funding paid for. That there was a miniscule bit of funding for services rendered has never been in doubt.

The American funding of the Wuhan lab amounted to $66,000 in 2020. It had been $133,000 in previous years. It was a sub-contract to an NIH contractor for the collection of samples to be used by American researchers studying possible virus threats from wildlife.

This is classic “conservative” bullshit. Take a molehill and with lies, innuendo and distortion try to make it a mountain. This tiny NIH involvement at Wuhan is the basis for the jackass Senator accusing Dr. Fauci of killing 4 million people and his promise that he would be held accountable.

In the video it is Dr. Fauci who accuses Ron Paul of making that accusation by inference. Paul doesn’t do so explicitly. At issue in the exchange is whether Dr. Fauci is lying when he claims the NIH never funded “gain of function” research.

As liars often do, Fauci accuses his accuser of lying.

You really are deplorable. Perfect Trumpkin. You have no evidence that Fauci is lying. And plenty of evidence that he is not. But there you go again with your baseless slander. Typical.

Dr. Fauci knows what he is talking about. Ron Paul does not. Dr. Fauci tried to provide the grandstanding jackass with the evidence of the truth of the matter but was cut off by this creep trying to lay the blame for the pandemic on Fauci and our government. A government run by Donald Trump, by the way.

“Funded the lab” purposefully sounds like all the monies came from NIH. A lie.

Were some funds approved during the last administration?

      Uh, no it doesn’t.

Rand has been making this accusation for months and it has been repeatedly checked.

It is a very ugly trait to constantly react to facts you do not like with allegations of dishonesty. Or “corruption.” But you people do this all the time even when the evidence is clear. In this case, the fact checker article lays out what is true and what is not around this “conservative” LIE. If you cannot read it you should get a WAPO subscription to stay better informed. Through Amazon it is not expensive.

No, you haven’t. Paul claims that the funded work qualifies as “gain of function” research. Fauci denies it, but his explanations are dubious. It remains to be seen whether Fauci’s denials are justified.

          1. Rand Paul should concentrate on being an actual Senator or go back to being an eye doctor. Like Scott Atlas, who should have stayed in radiology, his rhetoric is dangerous to the lives of his constituents and any one else who has faith in him.

          2. RE: “How are Fauci’s explanations ‘dubious’?”

His main reason for claiming the NIH never funded gain-of-function research at WIV is that NIH defined the funded lab work as not gain of function. That’s like a car thief denying he stole a car because he only borrowed it.

The explanation dubious is because numerous scientists outside the NIH have described the funded lab work as gain of function research. There’s more to the story that suggests corruption at NIH, but that’s the gist.

  3. Rand Paul is not a Trump Wannabe, he is a Ron Paul Wannabe, and the Senate could use another 99 of those.

WTF was the NIH giving even $1 to a Chinese virology lab for gain of function research. Want to help North Korea develop ICBMs next?

If gain of function research was to be done at all, it should have been in a secure US military facility.

    And then burned.

Repeating a lying liar’s LIE does not make it true. Read the fact check provided. We sent people to work in China to study wildlife-human interface dangers. The lab there collected samples and some storage space for OUR project for little more than a pittance. Your invoking North Korea given these facts is laughable.

Rand Paul, fake-Board Certified Opthamologist, would make a good poster boy for what is wrong with you people. I won’t list his many qualifying characteristics for that poster boy role lest you feel insulted. But, I will say that he is an embarrassment to the people who sent him to the Senate based on nothing but his Daddy’s name.

        1. Whatever may or may not be going on in those labs, it is not a bad thing for people from our country and people from WHO to be embedded with them.

As mentioned earlier this “issue” is typical molehill into mountain “conservative” bullshit. Without substance. Without truth. Without merit.

And, I mention again that this involvement was ongoing throughout Trump’s Presidency. Why are you people trying to throw bricks at Fauci and not the man in charge? Never mind. I know why.

At issue is whether the funded work in the lab qualifies as gain of function research. The NIH says it didn’t. Other scientists say it did.

The issue is unresolved. Any assertion that NIH didn’t break the law is unproved.

You do understand irony, right. Look at the opening with that understanding . . .

“WASHINGTON, D.C.—During an explosive Senate hearing this week, Senator and trusted medical doctor Rand Paul argued with Anthony Fauci—a dangerous conspiracy theorist who thinks vaccines don’t work and that the government is not funding the creation of medical abominations in secret labs.”

All of this irony is directed at “conservatives.” For good reason.

      1. Since when is Rand Paul a “trusted medical doctor”? His specialty is ophthalmology, I believe. That does give him any trust in infectious diseases.

And calling Fauci “a dangerous conspiracy theorist who thinks vaccines don’t work” is idiotic, false, and STUPID. Show me once where Fauci 1) spread a conspiracy or started one and 2) that he thinks vaccines don’t work.

        Yeah, that’s what I thought.
