Let’s Bring Myanmar to the US?

A retired, disgraced General advocates for a Myanamar-style military coup. And the crowd goes wild.

Hopefully those in the Pentagon will continue to be true patriots and follow the orders of the current chain-of-command and not the delusional dangerous rantings of a Q-General.

  1. When I read that someone advocates a violent overthrow of our government, like Flynn or Trump or anyone for that matter, I would ask them to look at Syria or Yemen or Kosovo or Uganda or Salvador or even our own Civil War. There is no glory, no patriotism, just a lot of dead and destroyed people.

Neighbors against neighbors, relatives against relatives, suffering, starvation, torture, destroyed cities and towns. Breakdown of the judicial system and loss of all rights.

Our Constitution keeps our forces under civilian command just for this reason.

    1. “Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

        1. You’re projecting again.

That’s not what Mr Roberts said, in quoting from the Declaration of Independence, but rather that before such steps are taken, other choices should be exhausted and the grievances must merit such measures.

          1. You are not paying attention. Flynn want a civil war TODAY.

Plus, what are the grievances TODAY and are they at that point of suffering?

Right after 1/6, I believe a comment was written that the attackers felt “ they had no choice”.

            Really?

        2. RE: “So your point is that suffering is so pervasive that it is time to start a civil war?”

My point is you left out the American Revolution when you made your list of historical examples to be examined. The omission is embarrassing to the position you espouse.

          1. So I left out a war of secession from 250 years go and that is a problem?

Why is that embarrassing? You are dodging the issue.

When do you start shooting those you disagree with?

          2. They can’t win elections fairly, so now it is time to overthrow the will of the people.

How many times have those on the right accused the “elites” of running things and not paying attention to the people?

This is the same damned thing in reverse.

      1. “Of course the people don’t want war. But after all, it’s the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it’s always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it’s a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger.”

        — Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

This applies to civil wars as well.

        1. RE: “This applies to civil wars as well.”

Yes, it does, but especially to civil wars that are ginned up by propaganda and witch huntery of the kind you and Mr. Green promote.

The disgraced former official of the 45th administration said what happened in Myanmar should occur here. I did not pull this out of a hat. UNlike the usual “intellectual purity” crap you post from MR, FPM, ZH, etc.

  2. I know a lot of Libertarians and Republicans, and I NEVER hear about these looney toon conspiracy rantings from them, I only hear about them when some liberal brings them up.

Very few on the right pay any attention to these things, it’s almost as though these folks are playing to the hypersensitive left to get attention that they can’t get from the conservative majority.

    1. OK, then please don’t paint liberals by your incessant pointing out the fringes? Or should we just ignore your loonies but support ours?

Flynn is not fringe. He was a fav, and still is, of the Trump team. So is his lawyer, Sydney. And we have Amanda Chase, Green, Clide, Jordan, Cruz, et. al. who are major political figures.

How far through the manure do we have to dig to get to the more mainstream right wing folks?

      1. …Chase, Green, Clide,…

Please spell her name properly so as not to confuse her family with mine. Hers as an “e” on the end.

        Thank you.

And manure pretty much describes what is now the mainstream right and GOP.

80% of Republicans believe the Big Lie. For you to say “Very few”… is disregarding simple facts. Too many people on the right no longer believe in the democratic ideals of our republic. Your ignorance of these facts is kind of disheartening. Yeah, maybe your little (VERY little) corner of the right feels otherwise. Bur even you refuse to condemn Flynn, MTG, Gaetz and the rest of the T****ian circus now know as the Mainstream GOP.

So when one of yours goes high and right, a la Flynn, it is the Left that is promoting it?

Delusional drivel driven home by the fact neither you (nor JTR) CONDEMNED the idea flat out.

If it had been a BLM theorist promoting this you would be saying things like “See, they want to overthrow the government”

Flynn, a retired Army General just called for that and YOU say. “Nothing to see here”. Kind of like 1/6 all over again. Just trespassing and tourist folks. Disregard the bear spray, hockey sticks and flag poles being used to bludgeon the police officers protecting you.

    3. Tens of thousands showed up on 1/6 because they actually thought that the states’ certifications could be nullified by Congress or the VP.

“Yet a full 73 percent of Republicans pin “some” or “a great deal” of responsibility on “left-wing protesters trying to make Trump look bad,” even though both the FBI and Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy have rejected the falsehood that leftist protesters were involved.”

      Yahoo news/ YouGov poll.

“ More than half of Republicans in a new survey believe that the pro-Trump mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 was secretly “led” by left-wing activists eager to tarnish the now-former president’s reputation, according to a new survey.”

      https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/546484-half-of-republicans-believe-capitol-riot-was-work-of-left-wing

A majority of them believe the elections were a fraud.

“ new Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll…The 17-19 May national poll found that 53% of Republicans believe Trump, their party’s nominee, is the “true president” now, compared with 3% of Democrats and 25% of all Americans.”

Hard not to pay attention to that number of people. Unless you are saying that over a 1/2 of Republicans are fringe nuts.
